We are casually enjoying the beautiful weather by BBQing with a gorgeous view towards the National Stadium..:

When we started noticing slightly unusual traffic on Nicoll Highway:

Hmm...

..kind of looks like... tanks?!

...yep...definitely tanks.

You ask why there are tanks driving around downtown Singapore on a sunny Saturday afternoon? Singapore is turning 50 this year. As every year, the Singapore Armed Forces will put up a great show at the National Day Parade (NDP). Except this year it will be bigger. Much, much bigger. So there rehearsals now every Saturday until August 9th.

Everything is taken from the baracks and shown off.

A couple of hours later we’ve moved on to a different location to watch the sunset on this beautiful day:

It will sure be an impressive show on National Day! There will be more rehearsals, so try and catch some of the action!

The Haze is back! https://www.gowiththeflo.asia/the-haze-is-back/ https://www.gowiththeflo.asia/the-haze-is-back/#respond Sun, 27 Sep 2015 10:09:22 +0000 http://www.gowiththeflo.asia/?p=629 Every year Singapore is affect by haze, caused by slash & burn techniques in Indonesia. 2013 was one of the worst, 2014 was ok. This year has seen some bad days, just look at the view we had on Thursday:

Quite a storm… https://www.gowiththeflo.asia/quite-a-storm/ https://www.gowiththeflo.asia/quite-a-storm/#respond Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:16:01 +0000 http://www.gowiththeflo.asia/?p=452 Last Saturday I work up to this approaching me at 7am:

Needless to say, a few minutes later a massive storm hit. I could have sworn that there was even hail hitting the windows!

The Air Force’s NDP Rehearsal from a different angle https://www.gowiththeflo.asia/the-air-forces-ndp-rehearsal-from-a-different-angle/ https://www.gowiththeflo.asia/the-air-forces-ndp-rehearsal-from-a-different-angle/#respond Sun, 05 Jul 2015 11:30:24 +0000 http://www.gowiththeflo.asia/?p=443 As I mentioned last week, the Singapore Armed Forces participate in the weekly rehearsals for the National Day Parade on Saturdays leading up to August 9th. One highlight is certainly the Air Force’s display which brings together the largest number of aircrafts to ever participate in the National Day Parade here.

This week I watched the rehearsal from a different angle. And while the weather was not good, I still thought that some of the photos are worth sharing:

While the weather certainly could have been better, I did not mind too much since I ran the Sundown Half-Marathon that night and was happy about the slightly cooler temperatures. It made for quite a unique scene as around 11pm several thousand runners were headed from the MRT station to the starting line of the race while being passed by tanks returning from the rehearsal.

SEA Games: Opening Ceremony https://www.gowiththeflo.asia/sea-games-opening-ceremony/ https://www.gowiththeflo.asia/sea-games-opening-ceremony/#respond Fri, 05 Jun 2015 15:21:30 +0000 http://www.gowiththeflo.asia/?p=327 While the football tournament and some other sports had already started, the official SEA Games Opening Ceremony took place on Friday, June 5th. Again, I was too slow to buy tickets so was left with watching the fireworks from some distance (I really should have researched earlier when those tickets would go on sale). I had seen the fireworks rehearsals a few weeks earlier and that would have already qualified for a very decent show in Europe, hence my expectations were on the high side.

And I was not disappointed. While not super long, the show did not disappoint. Below just a few of the highlights:

The National Stadium before the fireworks. They even arranged for a spectacular moonrise.
